Skye Weekend Meet
1-4 May 2009

Twenty people attended this superb weekend which saw a lot of activity in what can only be described as the four Scottish seasons in one weekend. Sun was on order but the message didn't get through very well. Attending were Marj Ewan, Colin Brown, Doris Copley, Bill Morgan, Ian Maclean, Roy Goodsman, Bill Christie, Aleks Bistrovs, Alex Barbour, Donna Ryan, Adrian Scott, Ben Mellor, Peter Fayers, Eilidh Scobbie, Jonathan Holston, Ken Thomson, Colin Kynaston, Bernard Glatz, Mike Brian and Ruth Craven. Friday saw the arrival of old and new faces who were all soon introduced and settled in for the weekend. We stayed in the Glen Brittle Memorial Hut which is a lovely spacious place and very well-equipped. I would highly recommend it for future use.

Saturday started off overcast and everyone set off on their various pursuits. Ken, Peter, Adrian and Bernhard to Sgurr na Banachdich, Sgurr Dearg and the In Pin which was quite an undertaking in the forecasted wind and snow. Colin and Doris to An Dorus. Bill to Sgurr Alasdair. Marj, Donna, Alex, Jon and Ben to Coir a Ghrunnda and onwards. Mike and Ruth to climb on Cioch Buttress. Bill Christie to Eynort. Roy, Ian, Alex and Colin K to climb Cioch west. Eilidh on an Island tour. Here is Coir a'Ghrunnda outing. Donna with Glen Brittle campsite in background.

Not much of Coire Lagan to be seen

Starting up Coir a Ghrunnda, this was slow going for Marj carrying rope etc.

We made our way up to the lochan. Jon at this point decided to head for Sgurr nan Eag and the rest of us went on up to ridge south of Caisteal a Gharbh Coire. Donna and Ben below the castle

We skirted round, and up and over Sgurr Dubh na Da Bheinn. Loch Coruisk from ridge.

We went on to Sgurr Dubh Mor and discovered Jon had taken a short cut and after doing Sgurr nan Eag actually got there before us. The weather by this time was starting to deteriorate so we reversed and had a very wet and cold descent. Alec on Sgurr Dubh Mor summit.

Saturday evening was enjoyed by all who had a communal meal together. Colin does a fantastic soup (for future reference)

Sunday: This was a sunny start which quickly deteriorated into a very wintery day up on the ridge. Mike and Ruth take the winners cup for completing their objective which was to walk to Coruisk from Sligachan and along the Dubh ridge, across the TD Gap and then over and down into Coire Lagan and back to GBMH. A long day in not too great conditions. Jon and Bernhard also completed their missions to do Sgurr Alasdair and Sgurr MhicCoinnich in opposite directions. Adrian and Alec did Sgurr Mhic Coinnich. Ken and Peter did Bruach na Frithe as did Colin and Doris. Ian, Alex and Colin K did Sgurr Dearg and Sgurr Banachdich. Bill C and Roy went from GBMH to SH. Marj, Donna and Eilidh went to Neist point where after a slow start and between rain and hail eventually managed a route on the upper crags.

All in all, I think a great weekend was had by everyone and my apologies if I have made any mistakes in this report as owing to the weather routes were tweaked and changed.
